Caring for Country

The Neighbours Nurturing Nature Volunteering Project held its Caring for Country session over the weekend.

The Neighbours Nurturing Nature Volunteering Project held its Caring for Country session on Saturday 4 May at the Murama Healing Space. Dr John Hunter and Indigenous educator, Kim Tilley introduced the volunteers to the space and discussed how we could all help be custodians of Country.

The volunteer group assisted in removing weeds and grass from the fledgling native food garden space and applied plenty of mulch to the grounds. There’s still more to do, but it was a great start to the project.

After a break for morning tea, the group moved into the Murama Healing Space to learn the basics of basket weaving. Everyone got the hang of it quickly thanks to Kim’s instruction, and we had some genuine yarning between new friends.

The Caring for Country sessions will continue throughout the year.
